Weight Loss: There has not been a MORE IMPORTANT Time to TAKE ACTION

As I walked through King Soopers last week, I couldn’t help but look in others’ carts to take stock of what my fellow community members are consuming.  I saw carts filled with white bread, sugary cereals, milk, soda, heavily-processed meat, chips, and ice cream.  If it was a “better” cart, I saw a head of lettuce and maybe a bag of carrots.  The problem with this picture is that the majority of these foods have very few nutrients, the few nutrients that are present are not very bioavailable due to the processed chemicals in the food (meaning the nutrients are hard to absorb through the intestinal tract), and cause blood sugar spikes, inflammation, and WEIGHT GAIN.  This is a problem……a severe problem.  This type of diet/lifestyle causes Americans to have increased cholesterol issues, blood sugar issues, neurological issues, digestive issues, and again, WEIGHT GAIN.  When our bodies lack nutrients for healing and repair, inflammation brews, increasing risk for disease, especially diabetes and cardiovascular disease.  Inflammation GREATLY IMPAIRS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM, making Americans more susceptible to COVID and even having more difficulty in recovery of COVID.

It is a new year and it is time to take action and see results.  It is time to take responsibility for your health with how you eat, how you move, and how you handle stress.  It takes more effort to buy nutritious ingredients for making healthy meals, it takes time to exercise and move your body, and it does take a conscious effort to handle your stress in a new and different way.   What I can tell you from personal experience (and from working on this with hundreds of people), is that there is great joy that develops in striving to become a healthier version of you.  It can be done with self-compassion and kindness.  A wellspring of energy, confidence, and health awaits.
