Detoxification 101: Dispelling the Myths and Providing the Critical Nature of Detoxing Healthfully!

Happy Valentine’s Day to our beloved community! When I was growing up, my dad was a mechanical engineer for medical parts. Much of his work involved design, planning, and project management, but he frequently would visit the manufacturing shop to monitor production. Shops are often filled with chemicals, coolants, and hot metal particles that my dad was breathing in and exposed to on almost a daily basis. My dad did this for 20 years when the side-effects of being in this environment started to catch-up: sleep issues, brain fog, and fatigue. Luckily, my parents had already entered the world of natural health care solutions, and my dad started long-term detoxification processes that eventually restored his health and made it even better than before he started expressing symptoms in the first place. I am so grateful he committed to these processes, as knowing what I do now, I believe he would have dealt with serious complications or even life-threatening health problems from his long-term exposure to heavy metals and chemicals.

My dad’s story is on the moderate side of chemical exposure. Many Americans are exposed to far more chemicals on a daily basis given pollution in their environment, their job-related exposure, long-term medication consumption, certain types of cosmetic or cleaning product usage, or even from the food supply they consume (heavily processed foods, often with antibiotics, hormones, GMOS, high sugar content, etc.). Chemical exposure isn’t the only thing that can contribute to toxicity; high, prolonged stress levels can also create toxic physiology.

Many of the symptoms my dad experienced are common of long-term toxicity: sleep issues, brain fog, and fatigue. But other symptoms of toxicity include weight gain (or difficulty losing weight), sensitivity to chemicals and scents, allergies, recurring headaches, muscle aches and weakness, recurring infections, even hormonal disruption and infertility. There are many disorders that are linked to chronic toxicity in the research such as fibromyalgia, chronic allergies, asthma, cancer, autoimmune issues, cardiovascular disease, depression and anxiety, neurodegenerative diseases, inflammatory digestive issues, chronic dermatitis, and more.

Providing detoxification support can be life-changing as individuals heal the inflammation that was caused by chronic toxicity. With the proper plan and nutrients in place, I have seen patients regain their sleep and energy, clear up skin issues, clear up allergies, decrease muscle aches, and heal digestive issues. The problem we have seen is that there is much misinformation in the media regarding detoxification.

On Wednesday, February 24th at 6:15pm, Jenn Evon, Body In Balance’s Functional Medicine Nutritionist and I will be teaching a virtual class called “Detoxification 101.”  You can register at BodyInBalanceChiropractic.com/events. We will cover myths about detoxifying your body, how to provide daily support for detoxification regarding lifestyle choices like food, nutrients, and self-care. We will also cover how to safely implement more intensive detoxification procedures that can be done one or more times per year given symptoms, chronicity, and health history/lifestyle.

Spring is one of the best times physiologically to detoxify and we are preparing for the arrival of spring and providing our bodies with healing support. In our chiropractic and wellness practice, we see patients absolutely thrive and heal even more quickly when detoxification is added into their lifestyle, especially when done with the proper guidance, support, and accountability! We look forward to enhancing our community’s health in 2021—let’s start it out with the proper tools for success!

Remember, Create Health by Choice, Not by Chance.
