Integrate to Create a New Level of Health and Wellbeing

When we experience overwhelming events--meaning the event is too much for our brain to take in and process at one time, fight-or-flight physiology takes over, helping us cope with the situation at hand.  But when there is an event that our brain perceives as something that is not safe for us to fully experience (trauma), the energy and information from that event is then stored in our body as vibration.  What happens to that vibration?  The trauma-related vibration is stored as tension in the body that over time, is walled off with the experience of muscular spasm, spinal distortion, reduced motion, and reduced breath into the area.

When we are working with your spine using the NSA analysis system (measuring specifically for the Phase), we get a sense of how your body has coped with experienced traumas and created a primary pattern of defense.  This pattern of defense is one that was typically learned at a young age and is used repeatedly to deal with life stressors.  We are all unique, and our bodies use individual patterns to wall off emotional and physical tensions and stressors.  The key is that until it is safe to experience that energy or vibration again, we cannot process the information from the trauma.  This does not mean that one needs to relive the trauma in order to heal, but the brain must once again be able to find and integrate the disconnected area of the body (in a way, the brain is feeling it, accepting it, and healing it).  Once that area has been integrated into the rest of one’s physiology, there is an increased sense of wellbeing and wholeness.  There is wisdom that can be utilized for healing.

It is important to realize that living in defense (fight-or-flight physiology) reduces your healing capacity.  It reduces information from your brain used to regulate your immune system, digestive and reproductive organs, and affects the tightness of your muscles.  It even causes increased heart rate and blood pressure.  It reduces your ability to fully experience your life, shutting off both positive and negative emotion that provides you with information about what is working and/or not working in your life.  It also creates a mind-body disconnection.  Until the areas of the body that have been the physical anchors to trauma (the areas that have been walled off) have been integrated into your full being, the body-mind will be lacking wisdom that could create an entirely new level of health and wellbeing.

When your body stays in defense, you react and tense more easily to the world around you.  Your body works to maintain this baseline state of stress—keeping itself in a structurally more rigid and armored state.  This armored body heightens the perceptions and feelings of stress which increase stress hormones and shift our perceptions to create more stress.  We then focus on external threats to our wellbeing versus finding what is happening internally that could create healing within.

NSA clears that defensive physiology.  Part of this process involves the ability of NSA to suspend unconscious, automatic behavior patterns.  NSA adjustments create safety in one’s physiology, activating the parasympathetic nervous system while decreasing fight-or-flight physiology. This allows the brain to find and integrate the areas that were once “walled off” as muscular spasm, spinal distortion, reduced motion and breath.  In essence, research has shown that NSA is creating safety around the experience of the trauma without causing the participant to re-experience or re-live the trauma.  As safety is created and one integrates these areas within their being, there is a new experience of wholeness.  This integration process creates fuel for change.

What will you do with that fuel?  Long-term studies on NSA have shown that many people utilize their new-found fuel and increased mind-body awareness to start or enhance healthy lifestyle changes.  Many improve their eating and exercise habits.  Some become more spiritual.  Some decide to donate more time to charity and helping others in need.  Whatever is decided, know that research has shown that you have an ever-increasing level of wellness available to you with NSA.  Healing truly is from within.
